Your Liebherr will last longer with these maintenance tips
Of course, you want your Liebherr machine to last a long time. Did you know that you can also perform simple actions yourself to keep the machine in top condition? Below, we give you five tips.
1. Drain water from the fuel tank every week
A fuel tank heats up during use, which causes condensation. This water is ultimately harmful to your machine. Think of the growth of algae or bacteria in the tank. Because water is heavier than diesel, condensed water always collects at the bottom of the tank. You can easily drain this with a drain tap at the bottom of the fuel tank. We recommend doing this weekly if you use the machine intensively.
2. Check monthly for wear
A regular check of the machine is important. Walk around the machine and see if there are any signs of wear.
Water hoses
Check if the water hoses are still flexible. If they are dried out and hard, they need to be replaced.
Oil hoses
Do you see an oil hose sweating? Then it is time to replace it soon, as this is a sign that the hose is about to fail.
Engine mounts
Check the condition of the engine mounts. Are there any cracks? Or is the rubber almost deteriorating? If so, replace the mounts as soon as possible. This also reduces vibrations during use.
Wiring harness
Check the routing of the wiring harness. Are there places where it could rub? Or are there visible signs of wear? By checking this regularly, you can prevent the wiring harness from actually wearing through and needing to be completely replaced.
3. Check the lubrication system
With older models, you had to use a grease gun to lubricate the grease points yourself. Nowadays, this is done automatically with the grease system. This system has a central grease reservoir. However, it is important to regularly check the level of the grease reservoir. Make sure the reservoir is always full. Also check whether the entire system is still functioning properly. A part that is not properly lubricated will wear out quickly.
4. Clean your machine regularly
A clean machine is not only good for its appearance. A clean machine is also good for its lifespan. It is much easier to detect a defect on a clean machine. Think of a sweating hose or a grease point that is not working properly.
5. What tire pressure does your machine need?
Because tire pressure varies per machine and situation, it is often handled too casually. It is important that the pressure is the same on the left and right sides. A softer tire has a different circumference and therefore a different rotational speed, which puts a heavy load on the differential. Within half a year, this can cause thousands of euros in damage. Therefore, maintain a maximum difference of 5% in wheel circumference and 3–5% difference in tread between left and right.
